"In 'Under the Lamplight' the viewer should immediately be aware they are viewing a British street scene. This is indicated by the Cadbury's, Guinness and Pears Soap posters. I also have a London black cab in the distance to further the understanding. The couple are standing alone in the falling rain, and again this provokes the question, why are they there, what is happening within the composition?"
