In these new works I have aimed to create an ethereal, dreamlike quality. This kind of atmosphere and feeling has always been central to my work and here the use of minimal colour allows me to achieve this.
As a kid on family holidays I always enjoyed looking at lights in the distance; especially across the sea. And for the first time they are now appearing in my work!
With my paintings, there is always a narrative focus in the foreground with the background mostly abstract. This enables the figures to stand out more powerfully, although ultimately it's the overall atmosphere of the picture that counts for me!
