I really wanted this piece to have as much zing as the citrus lollies it depicts, leaving the viewer tempted to reach out and grab them! This was quite a challenging image to undertake, which made it all the more rewarding when it was finally complete.

Obviously there is a high level of detail in the focused lollipop, but the lollipop’s shifting out of focus were technically just as complex. I use quite large soft brushes to blend the paint, so in some ways lose a level of control, and yellow is especially tricky to blend, as it can so easily become muddied.
