Enhance Your Home with Sculptures

If you feel some of the rooms in your home look a little bare, the simplest thing you can do is hang some bright, exciting art canvas prints on its walls. However, sculptures can also have a similar effect on the rooms of your house. As well as being beautiful to look at, sculpture art can bring a dynamic new dimension into otherwise dull rooms.

Buying sculptures for your home takes much more than merely choosing a piece that you like. You will need to spend some time planning for it. You will need to make sure that the sculpture that you choose is the right size and shape for the room you plan to display it in. Also, think about the material that will look best with your existing decor, be it wood, metal or plastic. If you are planning on displaying your sculpture in your garden, be aware that some materials may not respond well to extreme weather conditions, for example metal sculptures may rust.

A sculpture that looks great in a gallery or on a website may not have the same effect in your home. A large sculpture may make a room look small and claustrophobic, whereas a smaller sculpture may go unnoticed in a smaller room. Consider using lighting to showcase the art sculptures you choose. Choose the right sculpture and the rooms of your house will gain an interesting focal point that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.

Some Secrets to Decorating with Art Prints

Posted by admin on February 10, 2012 at 10:22 am. Filed under: Art Canvas Prints

Using art canvas prints around your home is a simple and affordable way to make a dramatic difference to your rooms. Art work can have such a significant effect on people’s emotions that you should think hard about what prints you have in your home and where you hang them. Here are some secrets to decorating with fine art prints.

•    Contrast
It can look very dramatic if you create a contrast between the print and its surroundings. Avoid art work that contains the same colours as the dominant colour in your room. It will blend into the background and not be very noticeable. Choose prints that accent the rooms colour and that pick out the colours of your lamps, cushions and rugs.

•    Size
The size of the art that you hang can also make a big impact. If you hang a small painting in a large room it could look awkward and out of place. On the other hand, a painting that is too large could dwarf other items. Even if you have a beautiful piece of original canvas art that you want to showcase, make sure you hang it in a place where it will be appreciated and enhance its surroundings.

•    Taste
When choosing artwork for your home, the most important thing to consider is your own personal taste. It’s no good filling your house with landscape canvas prints because you think it will enhance the decor when you dislike that style of painting. Keep your own taste at the forefront of your mind.

Encouraging Your Child’s Interest in Art

Children love nothing more than unleashing their creative side. Whether they are colouring pictures, playing with blocks or creating items with clay, they are learning different ways to express themselves. By nurturing your child’s creative side, they could grow up to have a real love of art and even enter a creative profession in the future. Here are some ways you can encourage your child’s interest in art.

•    Hang prints in their room
By hanging art canvas prints in your child’s bedroom, you can expose them to the world of art from an early age. The will soon become interested in the processes used to create the works of art and the stories behind the pictures. Choose images that children can relate to such as the friendly, stylised animals found in Peter Smith art, or hang landscape paintings containing images of places they’ve visited.

•    Take your children to galleries and art events
Taking a child to an art gallery or display will give them an opportunity to see art in the environment where it was intended to be displayed, and will give them an appreciation of different forms or art.

•    Give your children time to be creative
Make sure there’s some time during the week where the television is turned off and your child can take part in creative activities. Buy them art supplies and encourage them to learn how to use them. They can start by copying some of the techniques they have seen in paintings in galleries and around your home.

Choosing Art for a Waiting Area

Posted by admin on February 3, 2012 at 10:15 am. Filed under: Art Canvas Prints

Art is very much a point of personal taste, so choosing pieces for a shared space can initially appear difficult. A waiting room or office reception is the ideal place to display some works of art because the people who sit there have the time to sit and look at their surroundings and would most likely appreciate something interesting to gaze at. At Artisan Galleries, we have many art prints for sale for you to choose from, including fine, modern and original art.

Many businesses choose to go for modern or original art prints because they believe that they reflect their company image as an up and coming organisation with modern ideas and practices. It is understandable that customers will believe that a company image reflects the way the company works, and any art on display is a part of the company image. Consequently, the kind of art you choose for your waiting area should perhaps reflect the type of industry you are in. For example, a creative industry should perhaps go for contemporary and bold art, while a medical waiting room should have prints that relax the patients. Conservative industries such as solicitors’ offices are perhaps better suited to more fine art prints which will impress and reassure their clients.

Contemporary sculptures are popular for adding something a bit extra to a public space. However, be careful when choosing and then placing your sculpture that it will not be dangerous for children, easily caught on people’s clothing or knocked over.

A Unique Twist on Popular Landmark Prints

Canvas and modern art prints have made buying artworks a lot more accessible to the general public. Many people love to hang artwork around their home as decoration and like to have pieces that are going to draw comments from their friends and get people talking. A popular choice for homes is to get prints or canvases of famous places and locations, such as New York skylines or images of London landmarks.

Here at Artisan Galleries we love the collection of Paul Kenton prints, which bring something new and different to traditional landmarks and locations. Paul brings popular city locations to life through his original art prints of New York, London, Paris and Venice, among others. He manages to perfectly reflect the location without the need for recreating a perfect photo-fit image of the place, as so many prints do. Instead, his work is colourful and fun, with free-flowing lines and shapes and plenty of vibrancy. He tries to embody a sense of movement into his paintings of cityscapes, to reflect the mood and constant action of the city rather than a single moment captured in time.

At Artisan Galleries, we sell original Paul Kenton paintings, as well as reproduction Paul Kenton prints. For obvious reasons, the original artworks cost more than a print and are also only available for a limited period of time. We also have limited edition prints which have all been signed by Paul Kenyon himself – a real talking point for your living room.

Looking After Your Canvas Art

Posted by admin on January 27, 2012 at 3:30 pm. Filed under: Art Canvas Prints

If you’ve spent time and money choosing the perfect art canvas prints, then the last thing you want is for it to be ruined because it hasn’t been properly looked after, particularly if it’s a piece of original canvas art which can then not be replaced. Here are some tips for looking after your artwork.

When it comes to finding the perfect spot to display your artwork, you probably look at where you have space on the wall and what furniture it might go nicely alongside. However, you also need to take into consideration where there are sources of heat (such as a radiator or fire) and where the windows are, as both too much heat and light can make your piece of art deteriorate.

Keeping artwork clean is another consideration. You should never use any chemical cleaners or sprays, but only ever dust gently using a light duster or statically charged cleaning cloth. If you’ve managed to get splashes or dirt on the piece, then use a very slightly damp soft cloth to wipe gently, but never ever scrub.

Always try and avoid touching your original art prints directly because your fingers contain oil which could then stain or mark the piece. If you need to move your artwork, such as if you’re moving home, then always wrap it carefully in bubble wrap, taking particular care with the corners and edges, and never put anything on top of it, or put it on top of anything that might poke through.

Choosing Art for a New Home

Posted by admin on January 24, 2012 at 3:28 pm. Filed under: Art Canvas Prints

Having bought a new home, you will probably feel that the walls seem a bit bare and cold with nothing on them. We have a large selection of art canvas prints for sale, as well as many pieces of original and fine art by artists such as Paul Kenton and Neil Dawson. Before you start picking out pieces of art to decorate your home, however, there are some things you should consider.

It might be worthwhile taking a visit to an art gallery to get an idea of what kind of art you like and what appeals. Many art galleries are free or inexpensive and can really help to give you a good idea of what you like. You can also look at work by different artists online, which will help you if you know a particular kind of art that you are looking for, such as figurative drawings or sculptures, for example.

Although you should certainly choose art which appeals to you and which you like the look of, if you are wanting to display it in your home, then its surroundings should complement it in order for it to best shown off, and vice versa. If you plan to change colour schemes frequently, then don’t go for expensive pieces that will only match your current decor. Where you put the artwork can either help to enhance or diminish its appearance and impact, so consider colour schemes, furniture and lighting (bearing in mind direct sunlight can fade) when positioning your pieces.

How to Display Original Art

Posted by admin on January 20, 2012 at 3:22 pm. Filed under: Modern Art

When you buy original art, you spend more money than buying modern art prints, for example, and so consequently you don’t want your collection to be hidden away. Hanging art on a patterned wall will not show it off to its best advantage, as your eyes will be distracted by the wallpaper rather than focusing on the painting or photograph.

Art galleries and museums always display original canvas art against plain, usually white, walls with plenty of lighting. When this comes to your own home, you may not want to have all plain white walls, however. It may be that you have to make a decision, though, and have a feature wall which is in neutral colours on which you hang all your art pieces. It could even be that you dedicate a whole room to displaying your collection, and while you may think that plain coloured walls are boring, your art will do the talking for you and give your room the statement it needs.

Plain decor does not just limit itself to the walls, however, but should also include the flooring, furnishings and furniture, all of which should be plain and discreet. You may even want to include specific lighting to illuminate individual pictures, and you should never rely on daylight to do this job because exposure to too much direct sunlight will fade the paintings. We have many original paintings for sale on our website, so get your room ready and then you can start your collection!
